PUPIL DISCIPLINE ON SCHOOL BUSES

The school bus driver is responsible for the supervision of pupils being transported. The school bus driver’s, transportation department, and school principal’s duties in handling pupil discipline problems are:

1. If a driver has a discipline problem on the bus, the driver will do their best to resolve the issue. If the driver deems the situation worthy of a conduct report, (includes: student safety, driver and/or aide safety, damaging school property, and insubordination) she/he will fill out a “Bus Conduct Report” and return it to the Transportation Director. The Transportation Director will call the school and notify the principal and send a copy of the report to the principal.

2. When a conduct report is given to a principal, the principal will meet with the student. When the suspension is warranted, the principal will meet with the parent, complete the suspension form, explain the suspension start and stop date, then send copies to the Transportation Director and notify him whether the student is to be taken home on the bus or if the parents are responsible for student transportation.

3. At no time can a driver deny any student transportation unless it has been approved by the principal and the Transportation Director.

4. Drivers are to discharge only at their regular discharge point or at the pupil’s school of attendance. No pupils are to be discharged at any other place for disciplinary reasons.

5. At no time are drivers to put their hands on any pupil for any reason except to prevent pupil injury, administer first aid, or assist the student in an emergency.

6. Should any student receive one or more “Bus Conduct Reports” for violation of any of the rules, the typical sequence of consequences will be as follows:

a. First Conduct Report: A verbal warning from the bus driver or aide on the bus. Report completed. Mandatory parent/student meeting at the school with the principal.

b. Second Conduct Report: Mandatory Two – Five-day loss of bus-riding privilege, conference with student and parent, suspension documents completed, copy to parent, principal, and Transportation Director.

c. Third Conduct Report: Two-week loss of bus-riding privilege, conference with student and parent, suspension documents completed, copy to parent, principal, and Transportation Director.

d. Fourth Conduct Report: Conference with student and parent, suspension documents completed, copy to parent, principal, and Transportation Director.

Student bus privileges were revoked for the remainder of the school year. Official letter sent by Superintendent to parents notifying them of suspension.

Note: In the event that student discipline is serious, it may be necessary to deviate from the above-mentioned sequence; e.g., if a student commits an extremely serious offense as the first offense, s/he may be suspended from riding the bus for two weeks or even removed from the bus for the rest of the year.

Z-Pass Program

The Z-Pass Pilot Program is the beginning step in adding more safety and security for our students. ACSD#1 will provide Z-Pass Cards to all students who ride the bus. These cards will be used by students to check in when they load the bus and check out when they get off the bus at their stop. With the Safestop and Z-Pass Apps, parents will be able to monitor where the bus is on its route and when and where their student got on and off the bus. Students need to make sure to bring their Z-Pass cards with them every day. If your student does not have a Z-Pass card yet or if they forget their card they will still be able to ride the bus but the apps will not be able to track them. Bus drivers will keep a written log of students who get on and off the bus without their passes but would appreciate students using their passes as often as possible.

Please contact Transportation with any problems with the apps.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program

Below is the paperwork for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

This program has its own guidelines for which families qualify and is very important to our school. Our Title 1 language program is funded according to how many families in our school qualify for this program. So we do ask that even if you are not planning on having your child eat school lunch to please fill out this form and return it either to the Laramie Montessori office or to the address listed in the form. Title 1 helps every child in our school who needs it, regardless of whether that child's family qualifies for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

The completed form can be mailed to the District Food Services Office or returned to your school which will send it to them. Only one form needs to be filled out per family even if children go to different schools in the Albany County School District.

It is important to remember that the Free and Reduced Lunch form must be filled out and returned every school year.

Este formulario es para solicitar el Programa de Almuerzo Gratuito y Reducido. Sólo se necesita en forma por familia. Por favor, complete y envíe este formulario a la escuela si usted desea aplicar para este program.

Title 1 Parent Resources

Title 1 is a supplementary reading and math program that qualified schools can use to help students who need tutoring in those subjects. This is the first year Laramie Montessori has offered the math curriculum for Title 1 to students and we are very excited about the progress our students are making! This is the third year we have offered the reading and language curriculum and we are still pleased with the wonderful results of the program.
