Montessori Primary Grades Assistant Teacher

JOB TITLE: Primary Grades Teaching Assistant - Pre-School

REPORTS TO: Primary Lead Teacher and School Director

SUPERVISES: Students

HOURS: Full-Time

START DATE: Aug 21, 2024

This position requires patience and respect for children, and the ability to encourage the children to be independent in activities in which they are capable of completing. The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge and experiences sufficient to assist in presenting to children activities designed to promote our mission, which is to support the development of the whole child through an authentic Montessori environment that honors the child's intrinsic motivation to learn and supports each individual's unique intellectual, physical, social and emotional development, but as a public charter school.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements are enough college credits to certify as a substitute teacher and 1 year of classroom experience. Preferred requirements: BA in human development or field of education and experience in a classroom environment. Montessori teaching experience is also preferred, but we will train the right person.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: The teaching assistant works cohesively with the lead teacher. The job duties range from organizing materials and cleaning the workspace, to facilitating the learning process for each child. Assistants will deliver lessons with the guidance of the lead teacher. Assistants are expected to support the Montessori teaching method by guiding the child through self-directed activities, allowing the child to develop at his or her own pace. The teaching assistant will foster, along with the lead teacher, a nurturing and stimulating environment. The teaching assistant will step in for lead teacher to guide and manage the classroom when lead is occasionally called away to other responsibilities.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Primary Teaching Assistant shall:

Deliver lessons and materials, as selected or created by the lead teacher; present these materials using techniques that meet the needs of all students based on Montessori and State Standards and assist lead teacher in keeping written evidence of units of study.

Be knowledgeable about human development and how to create and maintain a harmonious classroom community and develop relationships with children.

Effectively manage the classroom and guide students when the lead teacher is called away from the classroom. Be calm and respectful, peaceful and nurturing, and consistently provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Assist lead teacher implementing plans to improve student performance, and maintaining required records. Follow required procedures and practices set forth by the school. Assist the lead teacher in assessment by observation, daily work, performance assessments, a student’s academic ability, and social strengths and weaknesses. The assistant teacher recognizes each student as an individual who will develop at his/her own pace and who has different interests, abilities, and family cultures.

Assist in executing class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.

Be able to prepare the environment to meet the needs of the classroom and school community. The assistant teacher keeps the classroom organized, neat, and clean.

Be responsible for updating and maintaining classroom materials on a regular basis, and knowledgeable of the school’s inventory of teaching materials.

Present and communicate in a professional manner to parents and other professionals.

Possess knowledge of and be responsible for administrative and clerical procedures. Must be knowledgeable about 21st century technology, word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Laramie Montessori School Elementary Level II Teacher

JOB TITLE: Elementary Level II Teacher (Grades 4th – 6th)

Immediate Supervisor: School Director

Start Date: July 1, 2024

The ideal candidate for this position will have the training, certification, knowledge and experiences sufficient

to lead children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth following the

philosophies of Maria Montessori.

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold, or be eligible to hold, a certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching

Standards Board with an endorsement as an elementary teacher and must be highly qualified under

NCLB

• Experienced at maintaining the integrity of Montessori pedagogy amidst the political and statutory

demands of a public school system.

• Knowledge of Wyoming State Content Standards and Benchmarks

• Have the physical capacity to work with older children (includes but is not limited to: bending, minor

lifting, working on the floor)

• Highly self-motivated

Preferred Qualification:

• AMI or AMS Elementary Level I certification

• Previous experience working in field of education in a Montessori setting

• If not Montessori certified, candidate is willing to complete on-site training and other requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Curriculum, Materials, and School Performance

• Establish and maintain Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of

students/parents new to Montessori

• Implement and update curriculum as student needs dictate.

• Plan, prepare, and maintain all units of study, lessons, and “works”.

• Schedule guest presenters and support students in planning “Going Out” as is appropriate.

• Give presentations as needed

• Participate in training for administration of WY-TOPP

Parent Education, Meetings, Conferences

• Communicate via newsletters with parents.

• Conduct and/or implement Parent Education nights during the school year.

• Contact and meet with specialists and/or parents regarding children with special needs.

• Prepare for and schedule 2-3 individual communications with all parents during the year, including 2

parent conferences, Montessori Community Programs, parent visitations, and two Open Houses (Fall

and Spring)

• Meet individually with prospective parents and students

• Schedule parent observations for prospective parents

Record-Keeping

• Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression through the

classroom for the purposes of communicating to parents about student progress and to determine

appropriate presentations and availability of works for individual children.

• Offer gentle guidance to students in task completion.

• Organize a record-keeping system for aides regarding children’s works

• Complete individual Montessori records including Parent Teacher Conference forms for all students

for their permanent folders twice per year.

• Complete Report Cards according to the Albany County School District #1 reporting schedule.

Supervision of Classroom Assistants

• Participate in mentoring of assistant teachers to support effective use of Montessori principles.

Montessori School Aide

JOB TITLE: School Aide

REPORTS TO: School Administrative Assistant and School Director

SUPERVISES: Students

START DATE: August 23rd-Training Day, August 24th-Official start.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements are a high school diploma. Preferred requirements: Experience working with and supervising children in a school environment. Montessori experience is also preferred, but we will train the right person.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: The Montessori School Aide position is a part-time position that will work over the mid-day time period of the school day. The Aide will help prepare the cafeteria area for school lunch, supervise students in the lunchroom and during recess time, assist with the clean-up of the cafeteria area following student lunch, and work the receptionist duties for the school. The typical hours for this part-time position will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Friday.

K-6th Grade Substitute Teachers

$14/hour

Applicant must have or must be able to get a substitute license. If you have a substitute license then please provide a copy at the time of hire. If you do not have a substitute license then there are two options:

60 credit hours of college credits or associates degree (please provide degree certificate or credit hour transcripts at the time of hire)

or

24 hrs of District or Montessori Professional Development and 30 hrs of classroom observation or experience (please provide certificates, letter of completion, or other documentation at the time of hire)

If you do not have a substitute license you must be able to pass a background check before being hired. Substitutes are called based on a list in order but are given to the first person to agree to it. Preschool Substitute Teachers

$14/hour

Must have two years of daycare, preschool, or classroom experience, have completed the Wyoming STARS training (free), and must be able to pass a Preschool DFS Background Check before being hired.
